“…I determine that it is necessary and appropriate to enter into negotiations with trading partners to adjust imports of robotics, industrial machinery, and their components…”

Caveats

  • No tariff, duty, quota or fee was imposed by this proclamation. It says the President may consider them later, depending on the negotiations, and may act if no agreement is reached within 180 days (180 days from 28 Oct 2026 is 26 April 2027, our arithmetic).
  • Concludes the Section 232 investigation opened on 2 September 2025 (see the related statistic). Commerce's investigation report itself is not public.
  • Second source, same reading: Reuters, 28 Oct 2026, 'Trump says imported robotics pose national security risks but does not impose tariffs' (republished by Investing.com).
