What the maker claims

  • maker claim Shoots 5,000+ weeds/minute; outperforms a hand crew of 75 people; sub-millimeter accuracy (carbonrobotics.com)

Claims are not independently checked unless an evidence item below says so.

Independent evidence

  1. Government or academic field trial Supports the job fit earlier model

Deep learning-based laser weed control compared to conventional herbicide application across three vegetable production systems
Rutgers University and Cornell AgriTech; Pest Management Science (Wiley), 2025

Field trials in New Jersey and New York vegetable crops: laser weeding reduced weed cover by at least 45%, weed density by at least 66% and weed biomass by at least 97% versus untreated plots, with crop stunting of 1% or less. Run in collaboration with Carbon Robotics.

Tested unit was an earlier LaserWeeder, decommissioned by the maker in January 2025; counts at half weight for the G2.

  2. Government or academic field trial Supports the job fit earlier model

Physical weed control strategies for vegetables using above and below ground strategies (slides)
University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR), 2022-11

Preliminary California trials with the Carbon Robotics weeder: 80% and 83% weed control in arugula, and reduced hand-weeding hours in spinach.

Earlier LaserWeeder generation; counts at half weight for the G2.
